The Swedish capital is built on 14 islands around the wellpreserved medieval city centre and offers a wealth of theatre, sights, museums, attractions and events. Stockholm Old Town is called Gamla Stan and is situated on the islet Stadsholmen. It has a medieval street system with two main streets and numerous small alleys all aiming at the water. In the Old Town, visitors will find sights like the large German Church, the House of Nobles, the Bonde Palace, the Tessin Palace and the Oxenstierna Palace. Stockholm has two UNESCO World Heritage sites: The Royal Palace Drottingholm and the Forest Cemetery Skogskyrkogården. Other interesting sights of Stockholm are the Royal Palace, which was built between 1697 – 1754 and which still is the official Swedish Royal Residence, The Royal Djurgården with open-air museums, restaurants, art galleries and amusement park and Stockholm city Hall – a red brick building hosting Nobel Price Banquet and with towers giving visitors a splendid view of Stockholm.
