RESURRECTION

Symphony No. 2 in C minor by Gustav Mahler at the Estonia Concert Hall, performed by the symphony orchestra of the Estonian National Opera and conducted by the artistic director and chief conductor of the Estonian National Opera Arvo Volmer.

The symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler, subtitled Resurrection was completed in 1888–1894 and first performed in 1895. Along with the symphony No. 8, it was the most well-known work by Mahler already during his lifetime.

A concert performance of the opera by Umberto Giordano at the Estonia Concert Hall. Along with his contemporaries Puccini, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Catalani and Cilea, Giordano belongs to verismo school of composers who laid main emphasis on the realistic nature of art. The music director is the artistic director and chief conductor of the Estonian National Opera Arvo Volmer. It is conducted by the music director and principal conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow Aleksander Vedernikov.

Their friend, Don Alfonso offers them a wager to test the fidelity of the two, as well as all women. The youngsters pretend that they must go off to war, but return disguised, and each try to win the love of the other’s bride as part of the wager. A number of comic situations follow.
